Massage

What is Manual Massage? Manual massage involves rubbing and kneading techniques used by athletes to maintain the health of soft tissue (muscle, skin, and ligaments).

What are the benefits of Manual Massage? By strategically applying pressure to areas affected by exercise, an athlete can increase circulation, improve range of motion, and eliminate pain and tightness caused by trigger points.

What is a trigger point? A lump or “knot” in muscle tissue that causes tightness, decreased range of motion, inflammation, tenderness and pain. Medical definition: An area of muscle where over-stimulated sarcomeres are unable to fully release a muscle contraction.

Can untreated trigger points lead to injury? YES!!! Inefficient movement patterns caused by muscle tension, poor range of motion, and pain lead to poor body mechanics and even injury!

What tools can be used to treat trigger points? Proper technique and inexpensive tools like Massage Sticks, Foam Rolls, Tennis Balls, and Lacrosse balls combined with a little elbow grease and/or body weight.
